Hastings and Blair Make Big Moves: Nebraska Show Choir Rankings 3/6/26

Three regional experts evaluated 35 of Nebraska’s top show choirs to determine the rankings. While divisions are primarily based on NSAA cutlines, some adjustments were made for groups that compete in multiple divisions throughout the season.


Large School

  1. Gretna “Revolution” (3 first-place votes, no change)

2. Westside “Amazing Technicolor Show Choir” (NC)

3. Millard West “West in the Groove” (NC)

4. Gretna East “Equinox” (NC)

5. Grand Island Northwest “14 Karat Gold” (+1)

News and Notes

-The biggest mover in this week’s rankings was Hastings, who moved up four spots. UNCAGED saw its deepest competition of the season at Grand Island, placing second behind Gretna and besting Grand Island Northwest.

-While Elkhorn South Blackout dropped two spots in the rankings, the group still showed out in South Dakota, placing second behind Bloomington Kennedy and ahead of Mitchell.

-Millard South scored a small pickup in the rankings after placing second at Vermillion in South Dakota, splitting captions with Bloomington Jefferson.

-There will be a battle of receiving votes choirs this weekend, as Pius and Lincoln High will be the favorites at Lincoln Northeast this weekend.

News and Notes

-Shock Wave made finals and placed fifth overall at O’Gorman, garnering them a first-place vote from a panelist and a move up to third in the rankings. Shock Wave made finals at four of its five competitions this season.

-The Norris Titanaires make a late-season appearance in the rankings. Titanaires finished their season on Feb. 7 with a second-place showing in division at Lincoln Southwest.


Prep

News and Notes

-Evolution continued its roll at Grand Island this past weekend, winning the prep division over Grand Island Northwest Bella Voce. The outfit has not lost to a Nebraska mixed prep group since Jan. 20, 2024.

-There will be a top-five matchup this weekend at Lewis Central, where #1 Evolution will battle #4 Titan Express. Lincoln East Elevation will complete their season at Clash of the Titans as well.


Small School

1. Blair “Ovation” (2 first-place votes, +3)

2. Wahoo “Royalty” (1 first-place vote, -1)

3. Skutt Catholic “Vivace” (-1)

4. Aurora “Rhapsody” (-1)

5. Plattsmouth “Out of the Blue” (no change)


News and Notes

-Multiple groups shined at the Bellevue East Battle of the East. Blair took its first-ever grand championship over 4A Iowa program Dallas Center-Grimes. Wahoo rounded out the podium at that event as well.

-Aurora showed out in the central part of the state, making finals at Grand Island and placing sixth, right below Papillion-La Vista Free Spirit.

-Blair, Aurora and Wahoo will all see each other this weekend at Lincoln Northeast. All have good chances to make finals and finish their seasons on the right foot.
