It looks like the sun will come out just in time for Hurricane show choirs to host
the Red Hot Championship this weekend in Hurricane. A total of 11 choirs from Ohio
and West Virginia will be competing in one of West Virginia’s largest competitions both in size and quality of groups.
This will be the first competition this year to host a large mixed category. Grove
City Touch of Class is coming off a second-place finish at the Marion Harding
Singsational last week while Marion Harding’s Harding Singers started their season with
a fourth-place finish at Findlay FEst just behind Solon, North Royalton, and Piqua.
Unlike those traveling from Ohio, Robert C. Byrd Vocal Intensity will be making their
competition debut after being delayed by multiple snow storms. The most competitive
division might be single-gender, as four choirs compete for the top spot and their chance
to earn their place in finals.
Predictions
Grove City Touch of Class comes into this competition with the most
experience this season. After finishing second to Olentangy at Marion Harding last
week, this choir is poised to take the Grand Championship back to the Columbus area.
Highest Ceiling: In the single-gender division, Marion Harding Xtreme is a crowd
favorite. The only mens choir, these gentlemen perform for the love of the stage.
This passion keeps adjustments from becoming a chore, allowing them to make great
gains week to week.
Dark Horse: Cabell Midland Rhythm In Red is coming off their first finals finish in five
years. This single-gender group quickly corrected after the preliminary round, placing
third above mixed choirs overall. Their show is creative and fun with quality vocals.
Rhythm In Red will put pressure on Grove City Class Act, who finished fifth overall at
Marion Harding and second in the single gender division.
