Gretna Tops Gretna East in Their First Head-to-Head Competition

By Arte Reed, Nebraska contributor

The dust has settled, and the Katelyn Wallace-led Gretna Revolution took the first meeting in what will be a storied history of matchups between Gretna and Gretna East. Others had their final competition of the year, and gave it their all to get the best possible outcome.

Prep Division

1st: Gretna "Evolution"

2nd: Urbandale "Vitality"

3rd: Grand Island Northwest "Bella Voce"

Evolution claimed their fourth consecutive prep championship with their prom-themed show that truly lit up the room. Vitality was live in living color and placed right behind Evolution in second. Norris was their last competition of the season, and there was no doubt they gave it their all. Bella Voce had a great run as well with a similar record to Vitality, but placed third here.

Womens Division

1st: Lincoln East "Elegance"

2nd: Urbandale "Affinity"

3rd: Seward "Blue Harmony"

Elegance took first place in the womens division after placing third and fourth at previous competitions. Affinity was right behind them, placing second. This marked their third time placing second, an impressive achievement that reflects their consistent presence in the top three. Seward placed third, but they had some tough competition here to contend with.

Small School Mixed

1st: Harrisonville "Music Makers"

2nd: Plattsmouth "Out of the Blue"

3rd: Seward "Gold Dynamics"

Harrisonville secured first place and a spot in finals with their Oregon Trail-themed show. Plattsmouth earned second place, marking a significant milestone after a challenging season. Their performance showcased both their potential and the progress they made throughout the year. Seward Gold Dynamics took the same spot as Blue Harmony, third in division.

Final Results

Grand Champion: Gretna "Revolution" (BV/BC/BB)

1st Runner Up: Urbandale "Studio"

2nd Runner Up: Gretna East "Equinox"

3rd Runner Up: Lincoln East "Express"

4th Runner Up: Grand Island Northwest "14 Karat Gold"

5th Runner Up: Harrisonville "Music Makers"

Harrisonville took sixth place after beating Vitality and Evolution to reach finals. Grand Island Northwest placed just ahead of them. While this wasn't their best result of the season, it remains a solid achievement given the competitive field. Lincoln East made a strong comeback after previously losing to Grand Island Northwest at Standing Bear. Gretna East earned third place here, marking their lowest placement of the season, but still proving they are one of the top groups in Nebraska. Urbandale's performance, telling the story of Home Alone through timeless Christmas carols, earned them second place overall. Gretna claimed another grand champion title, bringing their total to three wins throughout the season.

Urbandale, Seward, and Plattsmouth have finished their competition season. All other contenders still have at least one more stop until they close the curtains. Gretna and Lincoln East will be meeting each other for the fourth and final time at Lewis Central on March 8. Gretna East will be at Omaha North on March 8. Grand island Northwest will be taking a long break, but will be at FAME Nationals on April 12. Norris will also be attending that competition. Harrisonville will be at Raymore-Peculiar on March 8 to close their season.
