Winning isn’t everything, but it certainly is something. Here’s a look at who took overall Grand Championships this weekend, and what it means in historical context.

California
John Burroughs: Burbank In Sync rebounded from a third-place finish at Oceanside to take the win (and another musicianship caption) against Los Alamitos Sound FX at California’s last big competition of the year. In Sync now holds 11 wins at Music Showcase, most of any group, and 53 wins all-time, including six in the four seasons after the pandemic.
Canada
Show Choir Canada: Absolute chaos reigned in Ontario, as for the second straight year, an American group won the Canadian championships. This year, however, the added wrinkle is that a middle school-level group took the overall win. ROAR, from the Music Academy of Western New York, notched the Academy’s second grand championship to pair with SHOUT’s win in Canada last season. The Music Academy is now tied with Greece Athena for the second-highest win total of New York groups and only trails Uniondale.
Massachusetts
Waltham: Lowell Sound Impressions was one of only two groups to snag a Gold Medal and took their first overall win as a large group, winning Best Vocals as well. Lowell is the seventh different Massachusetts high school to record a competition win, and is the eleventh recorded winner of the Eastern Show Choir Festival. This was the first New England competition of the year that was not won by either Waltham or Daniel Hand.
Texas
Rouse: Timber Creek Aerodynamix took Best Vocals and the overall win at a no-finals Capital City Classic event for its first-ever win. ADX, who has been competing since at least 2014, is the ninth different Texas high school to win a show choir competition and the fifth different winner of the Capital City Classic.
