Relative Stability: A Southern Show Choir Recap (2/21/26)

For what seems to be the first time this season, the Southern show choir circuits had what seems to be a relatively calmer set of results. With that said, there are plenty of notes spread throughout the finals and the different divisions worth diving into.

The big competition of the weekend seemed to fall in line as most people somewhat expected: a Clinton Grand Championship (and as this author is someone who attended this event, it was rightfully deserved), followed by Brandon in the 1RU position and Tupelo in the 2RU position. Rounding out the finals spots were Madison Central in 3RU and Brandon’s womens group in 4RU. It’s worth noting that Northwest Rankin had to drop out of this competition due to illness.

The 3A and 2A divisions were non-competitive, leaving Northeast Jones and Rosa Scott to win their respective tiers, although neither made finals. In the 1A tier, Oxford held their own against competition to claim the divisional title, with Clinton Christian Academy in second and Pisgah in third. Final results are as below:

GC) Clinton “Attache” (Sweep)

1RU) Brandon “Brio”

2RU) Tupelo “Synergy”

3RU) Madison Central “Reveille”

4RU) Brandon “Bellas”

1st in 4A) Clinton “Attache”

Only Group in 3A) Northeast Jones “Gold Horizons”

Only Group in 2A) Rosa Scott “Radiance”

1st in 1A) Oxford “Sound”

1st in Single-Gender) Tupelo “Synergy”

Petal Show Choir Invitational

The other competition in the South this weekend took place at Petal, where Homewood and Avon threw down. In the end, it was Homewood who came out on top with a full sweep and Avon finishing in the 1RU position. Spain Park earned a strong 2RU claim, followed by Avon’swomens group as 3RU and Jackson Academy as 4RU. Like Northwest Rankin at Prep, it’s worth mentioning that Biloxi also had to drop out of this competition.

In the middle tiers, favorites prevailed, as Enterprise won the 3A division against Oak Grove and South Jones won the 2A division against Sumrall and Pearl River Central. The 1A tier had a lot more going on though, with West Marion topping the field. Maybe the most surprising result of this weekend occurred here, where Tarpon Springs defeated most of this division (including previously third-ranked Pass Christian) to earn second in the tier with their season debut. Final results are as below:

GC) Homewood “The Network” (Sweep)

1RU) Avon “Accents”

2RU) Spain Park “Rhapsody In Blue”

3RU) Avon “Attractions”

4RU) Jackson Academy “Encore”

1st in 4A) Homewood “The Network”

1st in 3A) Enterprise “Encores”

1st in 2A) South Jones “Company”

1st in 1A) West Marion “New Era”

1st in Single-Gender) Avon “Attractions”

Travelers

Up north, the Oak Mountain program made quite the statement at the Best of the Midwest in Indiana. Their mixed group placed 2RU, but managed to earn the Best Visuals caption against the likes of Franklin Central, North Central, and Fishers. Their womens group earned the same 2RU placement in that division.
