Enid will host their annual Tri-State Show Choir Contest on Wednesday, Mar. 11. Located 90 minutes north of Oklahoma City, this contest has attracted many premier groups from the metro. A month has passed since the last midweek contest at Duncan, meaning that this competition is sure to see some more polished and well-rounded shows than in February. This is also the penultimate competition for Oklahoma this season, so groups will be hungry to perform their best before the window closes.
6A Division
Edmond Memorial “Act II”
Bixby “Spartan Genesis”
Mustang “Backstage Broncos”
5A Division
Duncan “Reflections”
Guymon “Tiger Tonality”
Durant “Sound Etc!”
4A Division
Woodward “Boomer Expressions”
3A Division
Lexington “Southern Accents”
Alva “Gold Rush!”
Single-Gender Division
Edmond Santa Fe “Serenade”
Claremore “Sound Express”
Lexington “Testostertones”
Lexington “Pitch Slapped”
Although the overall lineup is smaller than Duncan, the quality is there. Many groups match up in their class divisions while all fighting for the overall sweepstakes award and the handful of captions available.
In the 6A division, there is a huge matchup between Bixby, Edmond Memorial, and Mustang. Mustang and Bixby are making their debut in central Oklahoma as they both went to Jenks instead of Duncan. On the other hand, Edmond Memorial looks to grab their second sweepstakes award as they took home the win and Best Vocals at Duncan in February.
The 5A division has more interesting matchups as Guymon looks to take down Durant and Duncan. Duncan has a long history and hopes to make some waves before their director Kevin Zinn retires at the end of the season. Durant had quite the showing at Jenks, taking home first in the prep division over Bixby, Mustang and Guymon.
There is a sole group in the 4A division, but an interesting one nonetheless as Woodward makes their competitive debut. The Boomer Expressions, located in rural northern Oklahoma between Guymon and OKC, look to make the trip to Enid and show off the hard work and their very first show for judges.
The matchup in the 3A division is highly intriguing as Alva and Lexington face off again. Having two of Oklahoma's best in the same division is sure to leave some heads turned. Alva hopes to hold their title at Enid after last year's sweep, where Southern Accents finished in a close second overall. Gold Rush took the early-season division win at Duncan in February but Lexington is coming off a dominant win at Hollister in Missouri.
With the lack of Finale, Edmond Santa Fe's mixed group, Serenade will be the sole group from the school competing and arguably the favorite to take the single-gender division after they took it at Duncan (as well as second overall); they hope to continue their streak as division champs. Claremore will compete for the second time, making the drive out of the Tulsa metro after last competing at Jenks. The two Lexington groups will also throw their hats in the ring. Testostertones finished fourth overall after making finals at Hollister for the third year in a row, also taking the Best Choreography caption. T-Tones will hope to topple Serenade while Pitch Slapped looks to make a move and pop into the podium.
The middle school division is nothing to scoff at, either. A total of seven junior high groups will attend, including a top-three matchup from Jenks Trochella in Durant, Bixby, and Broken Arrow Childers. Edmond Heartland and Edmond Central will also be some groups to watch after they finished first and second in their division at Duncan. Will Rogers Middle from Tulsa will compete for the first time, marking yet another Tulsa metro school forming this season.
