News and Notes
Center Grove (CG) started the season strong with a win at Olentangy over some of Ohio’s best groups, including Marysville, Loveland, and Fairfield. Olentangy provided a solid test for the group after Sound System dropped the choreography caption to Marysville at Fairfield last season. But this year, CG swept both captions in a dominant victory. Sound System looks to continue a fifteen-competition undefeated streak this week at the Fishers Silver Spotlight Invitational.
Three top ten groups will face off in their competition debuts at the Southmont Show Choir Invitational this weekend. Sixth ranked Avon Accents went undefeated last year, including a win at ISSMA state finals over fifth ranked North Central and eighth ranked Plainfield. This year, Avon, Plainfield, and North Central will duel early in the season, quickly establishing who deserves to be among the top five groups in Indianapolis.
Carroll swept their first competition at Northrop, defeating ETC and Jay County. After hosting this weekend, Magic will head to Chesterton, where they had a strong third place last year in a competition that consistently draws some of the best groups in the nation.

Large Single-Gender
Center Grove "Debtones" (5 first-place votes)
Carmel "Accents"
Fishers "Sound" (1 first-place vote)
Franklin Central "High Voltage"
Zionsville "Choralaires"
Avon "Attraction"
Plainfield "Femmes Fatales"
North Central "Descants"
Brownsburg "Starlight Voices" (+1)
Westfield "Illumination" (-1)
Receiving Votes: Castle “Knightingales”
News and Notes
On January 24, Westfield won their first ever grand championship at the Anderson A-Town Showdown. Illumination also took the best choreography caption in a victory over New Castle and Columbus North. They will continue their season on Feb. 14 at Chesterton where they will look to make some noise in a stacked single-gender lineup that includes Carmel and Franklin Central.
Sixth ranked Avon, seventh ranked Plainfield, and eighth ranked North Central are all at the Southmont Show Choir Invitational to determine who is best among the ISSMA field. Last year at ISSMA finals, Plainfield won with best vocals, while Avon placed second with best choreography; however, Avon won the previous two showdowns at Ben Davis and Mooresville. At state, Descants followed closely behind in third. Southmont will serve as an early test for each of these programs in what has become a closely contested battle year after year.
Center Grove opened their season with a grand championship at the Olentangy Keynote Classic in Ohio, with Best Vocals, Best Visuals, and Best Show Concept. The Debtones took down three of Ohio’s top five Single Gender groups, Fairfield, Marysville, and Loveland to win the event. Their next major test will be next weekend at the Pike Musicfest, where they face the fifth ranked Zionsville Choralaires.

Columbus North has started the season strong with a victory at Anderson and an overall third place at Edgewood over a couple of large mixed groups. At Anderson, they also took the vocals caption in their win over New Castle and Glenwood. The following week, they beat Ohio large mixed group Beavercreek to place third overall. This week, Vocal Pointe will take on second-ranked Pendleton Heights, Ben Davis, and fifth-ranked Franklin Community in a challenging middle mixed field at Fishers Silver Spotlight.
