News and Notes

  • At Center Grove Best of the Midwest, Franklin Central took their second grand championship of the year, along with Best Vocals over two top-ten groups, North Central and Fishers. While FC Singers did drop the choreography caption to Alabama contender Oak Mountain, the victory elevates them into third ahead of a matchup against undefeated first-ranked Center Grove next weekend.

  • Brownsburg debuts in the top ten after a contentious weekend at the Kenton Cup. Coming out of prelims, Brownsburg was ahead of  Solon Music in Motion. That is no small feat, as Solon has been the top group in Ohio the last two seasons. This weekend at Franklin Central, Spotlight will take on three other groups in the top ten, including Carmel, Fishers, and Plainfield.

  • Carmel and Lafayette Jefferson continued their strong seasons with grand championship sweeps at Northridge and Franklin Community, respectively.

News and Notes

  • Best of the Midwest resulted in significant movement throughout the poll. Franklin Central High Voltage was the largest benefactor, with a grand championship and caption sweep launching them up to third in the rankings. Fishers and North Central both dropped two places, but both groups have a chance to rebound this week. Fishers will take on the second-ranked Carmel Accents, and North Central will take on Lawrence North and Columbus North looking to complete their first multi-win season since 2017.

  • Pike MusicFest has updated their scoring page to reflect that Zionsville defeated Center Grove at Pike Music Fest two weeks ago with North Central taking third. This information was not publicly confirmed before the panel voted this week, and thus is not reflected in the rankings above. Zionsville will continue their undefeated season at Sullivan, taking on Esprit, a top ranked Illinois womens group, and have the chance to take down some mixed groups in an overall finals.

  • Franklin Central will host four of the top ten large womens groups in the state this weekend. Second-ranked Carmel comes into this competition undefeated with two grand championships, including a victory over third-ranked Franklin Central at the Chesterton Trojan Classic. Fishers Sound has had strong showings this season, with both a grand championship and first-runner up, while outplacing Carmel at this event last year. While the defending state champion Plainfield started the season with a second runner up behind ISSMA rivals Avon and North Central, they have had several weeks to work on their show, and they have shown special strength in finals, defeating Fishers last year at Lawrence Central. Last year, ninth-ranked Brownsburg won three of their four competitions and had the lead before withdrawing last weekend at the Kenton Classic. All of these groups are some of the best single-gender groups in the nation, and just three can make finals, so the heat is on to see how one of the best single-gender competitions of the year shakes out.

Small Mixed

  1. Roncalli "Royal Rhapsody" (6 first-place votes)

  2. Columbus North “Vocal Pointe”

  3. Pendleton Heights “Pendletones”

  4. Huntington North “Varsity Singers”

  5. Mooresville “Spotlighters” (NEW)

Receiving Votes: Columbia City “City Heat,” New Palestine “Crimson Heat,” Franklin Community “Heritage Singers,” Whiteland Community “Rhythm Masters”

News and Notes

  • Columbus North confirmed their top-two spot this past weekend with a grand championship and Best Vocals over Whiteland Community, who had a strong start to their season. Vocal Pointe now has two grand championships and two first runner-ups in the small mixed division this season, a historic effort for the group.

  • Mooresville moved into the top five of the rankings this week, with their second divisional grand championship of the year at Franklin Community. Earlier in the season, they placed fourth at Pike MusicFest, outplacing Whiteland for the last finals spot.

  • Huntington North took their first small mixed grand championship at the DeKalb Choir Festival before placing a respectable third in finals. At the event, Varsity Singers outplaced fellow Fort Wayne small mixed groups Columbia City and Churubusco.

They competed well against large groups in January and February and consistently placed above their in-state opponents. Irish Adrenaline will make their return to the stage one last time at Brownsburg in two weeks to close out their season.

  • Following a split-caption victory at Homestead, Columbia City proved that result was no fluke, placing first runner up this week ahead of fifth-ranked Huntington North.
