By William Soquet, Editor-in-Chief

Three regional experts considered 39 show choirs from the Land of Lincoln and voted 20 in across three divisions. These are the results.

Championship Mixed

  1. Wheaton North "Flight" (+1, 3 first-place votes)

  2. Wheaton Warrenville South "The Classics" (+1)

  3. El Paso-Gridley "Modulations" (-2)

  4. Dwight D. Eisenhower "Express" (+5)

  5. Mt. Zion "Swingsations" (-1)

  6. Waubonsie Valley "Sound Check" (-1)

  7. Naperville North "Entourage" (No change)

  8. Glenwood "Titan Fever" (-2)

  9. Manteno "Magic" (NC)

  10. Mundelein "Sound" (NC)

News and Notes

Wheaton Wins Comps and Votes: Wheaton North beat the field at Bettendorf last weekend, taking Grand Champion in their first competition of the season. That victory also took them to the top of the rankings, where they jumped from second to first and secured all three first-place votes.

Express Route to the Top: Dwight D. Eisenhower scored its first Grand Champion trophy since 2004 when they beat El Paso-Gridley to win at Crete-Monee. In turn, the panel took notice and boosted Express from ninth to fourth in the rankings, vaulting them ahead of Mt. Zion and marking a shocking five-position swing.

Mundelein Wins Comps, Not Votes: Mundelein, like Wheaton North, won a competition this weekend. Unlike Flight, Sound did not make up any ground in the rankings. It's tough sledding for Mundelein, who took both Best Vocals and Best Choreography en route to its win at Fort Atkinson.

Single-Gender

  1. Wheaton Warrenville South "Esprit" (2 first-place votes, NC)

  2. Mt. Zion "Les Femmes" (1 first-place vote, NC)

  3. Mt. Zion "You've Got Male" (+2)

  4. El Paso-Gridley "Hi Fidelity" (-1)

  5. Naperville North "Vivant" (-1)

News and Notes

Wrestling It Out: Mt. Zion's show choirs both took steps forward after competing at Troy Buchanan. Les Femmes made finals and garnered a first-place vote in this week's rankings. You've Got Male didn't make finals but did impress with its wrestiling-themed show, moving up two spots in the rankings.

Festival Mixed

  1. Danville "Delegation" (3 first-place votes, NC)

  2. Sullivan "Singers" (NC)

  3. Herscher "Class Act" (NC)

  4. Crete-Monee "Cavaliers" (NC)

  5. Alan B. Shepard "Nova" (Not Ranked)

    Receiving Votes: Peoria "Soundwave"

News and Notes

Delegating Second Place: Danville Delegation has left the rest of the festival mixed field behind, securing every first-place vote this week. Delegation won the festival division at Crete-Monee, scoring head-to-head wins against #3 Herscher and #5 Alan B. Shepard at that comp.

All Quiet on the Western Front: Sullivan took the trip to Troy Buchanan this past weekend. While Singers did not make finals, their performance was enough to keep them in the second spot in the rankings.
