Three heavy-hitting competitions headlined Nebraska action last weekend, with Gretna, Elkhorn North and Lincoln East hitting the win column for the first time this year.
Papillion-La Vista South Titan Classic
GC: Gretna “Revolution” (BV/BC)
1st Runner Up: Millard West “West In The Groove” (BB)
2nd Runner Up: Mitchell “Friend de Coup”
3rd Runner Up: Papillion-La Vista “Free Spirit”
4th Runner Up: Gretna “Evolution”
5th Runner Up: Millard West “Uptown”
For the fourth year in a row, Revolution dominated the Titan Classic, taking Best Vocals and Best Choreography. They also bounced back from the end of last season, where WIG beat them at Lewis Central. WIG's show band Groovehouse was able to still take Best Band from Gretna. Mitchell sat in third place in prelims and finals, but the season is far from over for them, as they’re the popular choice to win at O’Gorman in a few weeks. Free Spirit placed fourth, the highest the Monarchs have placed all season so far. Both Evolution and Uptown were able to secure finals spots, and it likely won’t be the last time both groups are seen in finals this season.
Elkhorn Red Carpet Classic
GC: Elkhorn North “AdrENaline” (BV/BC)
1st Runner Up: Millard North “Infinity” (BB)
2nd Runner Up: Pius X “Spectrum”
3rd Runner Up: Skutt Catholic “Vivace”
4th Runner Up: Blair “Ovation”
5th Runner Up: Maryville “Spectrum”
After being bested by Infinity at Gretna, AdrENaline bounced back at Gretna East, and was able to hold that position here. This is also the second time that AdrENaline has won this competition, the first was last year, which was also AdrENalines first Grand Champion of their schools program. Infinity was able to secure Best Band, a repeat of Gretna’s results. So far Pius X Spectrum hasn’t moved up from third this season, but they still have a lot of competition left in the season so there is room for that to happen. Also interestingly, the bottom three in finals at this competition are the exact same bottom three from this competition last season.
Lincoln Southwest Showdown
GC: Lincoln East “Express” (BC/BB)
1st Runner Up: Elkhorn South “Blackout” (BV)
2nd Runner Up: Norris “Gold”
3rd Runner Up: Lincoln “Chain Reaction”
4th Runner Up: Wahoo “Royalty”
5th Runner Up: Elkhorn South “Shockwave”
There was a little bit of an upset here with Express winning over Blackout. It wasn’t a sweep though, as Blackout was still able to take Best Vocals, but it’s an impressive win for Express nonetheless. This looks like the end of Gold's season, going winless. Chain Reaction continues to impress, as they have been having an impressive season so far. While Royalty got fifth here, they still have an opportunity for a win later in the season at Bellevue East. Shockwave continues to make finals this season, only missing finals at Gretna East. They are likely to make finals at O’Gorman in a few weeks.
