There were arguably more choirs at North Polk High School than there were streets in Alleman, Iowa this past weekend as North Polk hosted their annual show choir competition. The day ended with three top-shelf groups squaring off in a tight finals battle.

Prep Division

1st: Valley “Ignition”

2nd: Ankeny "Perpetual Motion”

3rd: Davenport Central “Blue Vibrations”

4th: Ankeny “Intensity”

5th: Dallas Center-Grimes “Acceleration”

In what was a matchup between two great prep groups, Ignition was able to best Perpetual Motion, the crowd favorite in this division. This is PM's first second-place finish of the season, with the group still looking for a finals appearance at Bishop Heelan. Blue Vibrations is still looking for a divisional win, and maybe they can find that at Western Dubuque where they face off against Onalaska Express.

Womens Division

1st: Valley “Amplification”

2nd: Pella “Bravo”

This marks Amplification's first division win in program history. The group was second at Waukee and did not join the other Valley groups at Davenport North. Bravo ends their season without a first-place finish.

Final Results

GC: Davenport Central “Central Singers Inc.” (BV/BC)

1st Runner Up: Ankeny “Visual Adrenaline”

2nd Runner Up: Valley “Choralation” (BB)

3rd Runner Up: Valley “Ignition”

4th Runner Up: Pella “AcaPella”

5th Runner Up: Dallas Center-Grimes “Momentum”

6th Runner Up: Xavier “Xhilaration”

Xhilaration was the winner of the small school division, securing their spot in finals. Momentum put on a fine show, and they are still in the conversation to close their season with a win at Bellevue East.

This ended up being AcaPella's lowest placement of the season after going three-for-three in third places earlier in 2026. The group is certainly mixing it up with many of Iowa's best 4A choirs, of which Pella is now one.

Ignition did so well in prelims that they grabbed a spot in finals, and ended up in fourth overall for the day. This also includes beating out AcaPella, a group that beat them at Davenport North. One of the judges even put Ignition in first place over groups like CSI, VA, and even Choralation.

This is Choralation's third Best Band award of the season, and they could probably take another one in a couple weeks at Marion. While this is also their lowest placement of the season, making it into the top three along with some very impressive groups is still a huge achievement.

Many assumed that Visual Adrenaline had this one in the bag, so seeing them in second place with no caption awards is a little shocking. But VA brought in the big guns here, showcasing an incredible performance. Ankeny travels to Bishop Heelan in a few weeks where they will go up against Sioux City East and Sioux Center.

Going from third in prelims to first in finals, CSI won the Comet Sensation with Best Vocals and Best Visuals. Interestingly, this is not the first time CSI jumped up to first in finals this season. Showcasing some of the hardest choreography of the day, CSI showed that the change to Heath Gemar was worth it. Davenport Central will host this weekend before traveling to Western Dubuque, where they will go head to head with Onalaska.
