News and Notes

Homewood Rises, Northeast Jones Drops in 4A/3A

This last weekend, Homewood traveled to Petal and completed a clean sweep against the likes of a visiting Avon program from Indiana, winning their first Grand Championship title of the season. Due to this, Homewood has jumped two spots in the rankings. On the other end, Northeast Jones just missed out on finals at Jackson Prep against Brandon's treble group and Madison Central, leading them to drop outside of the top ten.

Bellas Drop for Success?

As previously mentioned, Brandon's treble group went to Jackson Prep and arguably caught a number of onlookers off guard by making finals over Northeast Jones. Despite this outstanding performance, Bellas dropped tw0 spots in the single-gender rankings. While this could be chalked up to two different voters not being present during the last two rankings, it will be interesting to see if voters will stick with their sixth place ranking for Brandon's treble group in upcoming weeks.

Enterprise out of 2A

Enterprise, having competed in 2A all season and ranked in the top five 2A groups, competed in the 3A division this last weekend at Petal. Due to our ballot rules, Enterprise will be considered as a 3A group for the rest of the season. With Enterprise moving to the 3A division, Jackson Prep took their fifth-place spot in 2A, and Enterprise currently sits outside the top ten for 4A/3A.

1A Chaos

With Tarpon Springs taking second in their division behind West Marion at Petal this past weekend, Pass Christian was expected to drop at least a place or two. However, Pass Christian has dropped out of the top five entirely, while losing to just Tarpon Springs and West Marion this season (with the latter even receiving first-place recognition from some). On top of that, Pisgah remains ahead of Clinton Christian Academy, despite the two having competed at Prep this last weekend, with Clinton Christian Academy coming out on top.

Future Matchups

As always, this next week promises some exciting matchups for our future ballots. Starting off with the obvious, the Auburn Show Choir Showdown features a HUGE matchup between the 2nd, 4th, 6th, 8th, 9th, and 10th ranked 4A/3A groups in the Southern show choir circuit. Auburn will also host the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th ranked single-gender group. I don't think I need to say much more in that regard. Over at Oak Grove, we get a bout between the 3rd and 5th ranked 4A/3A groups, with the top ranked 2A group, South Jones, thrown into the mix. Also in the lower tiers, we get a matchup between the 1st, 4th, and 5th ranked groups from the 1A division. All that said, this weekend is nothing short of jam packed with close matchups. Be sure to follow along with us to prepare for the chaos!
