There is only one weekend in the show choir season where you will find two competitions in South Dakota. Here it is. Let’s preview both the Sioux Falls O’Gorman Standing O and Vermillion Rhythm In Red Invitational.
Sioux Falls O’Gorman Standing O:
Mixed Division
Bloomington Kennedy “Rhythm In Gold”
Mitchell “Friend De Coup”
Aberdeen Central “Eagle Express”
Waconia “Power Company”
Elkhorn South “Blackout”
Treble Division
Elkhorn South “Shock Wave”
Aberdeen Central “Special Request”
Waconia “The Current”
Prep Division
Elkhorn South “Power Surge”
There are a combined 6 grand champion trophies in the Mixed Division, with Rhythm In Gold, the Minnesota group, having half of those. Friend De Coup has competed only twice so far this season, attaining podium places but losing to the best in Iowa and Nebraska. Eagle Express is having a not so stellar season, which includes a sixth place at Sioux Falls Roosevelt. This is the second time Power Company and Rhythm In Gold are facing off, and in their last appearance, Rhythm In Gold swept Best Vocals and Best Visuals. Finally, Blackout is having a very successful season, winning two competitions, getting 4th at Gretna East, and taking 2nd at Lincoln Southwest with Best Vocals. It’s anyone's game here.
Outside of the mixed division, Shock Wave has been having one heck of a season. The treble group has made finals at three of their competitions so far, and since O’Gorman takes six finalists, they could also make finals here.
Final Predictions:
1st: Mitchell “Friend De Coup” (BV, BB)
2nd: Bloomington Kennedy “Rhythm In Gold” (BC)
3rd: Elkhorn South “Blackout”
4th: Waconia “Power Company”
5th: Aberdeen Central “Eagle Express”
6th: Elkhorn South “Shock Wave”
Vermillion Rhythm In Red Invitational:
Mixed Division
Harrisburg “Eclipse”
Millard South “South On Stage”
South St. Paul “Southside Sensation”
Bloomington Jefferson “Jefferson Connection”
Sioux Falls Jefferson “Legacy”
Small Mixed Division
Dell Rapids “Espresso”
Harlan “Breaking Cylence”
Emmetsburg “High Voltage”
Hinton “Soundwaves”
Woodbine “Visual Harmonics”
Treble Division
Elk Point-Jefferson “Momentum”
Bloomington Jefferson “JIVE”
Millard South “Stage One”
Sioux Falls Jefferson “Revelry”
Like O’Gorman, Vermillion’s competition acts like a crossroad between groups who would normally never get the chance to compete against each other. Fun fact: There are three different “Jefferson High Schools” attending.
South On Stage is still looking for a win this season after facing tough competition at Indianola. Jefferson Connection is on the rise in Minnesota, with one grand championship this year. Legacy has got two wins back-to-back this season. In the Treble Division, both JIVE and Revelry have made finals, while Stage One has also won this division earlier this season. This competition is a lot less predictable than O’Gorman's, which makes it another highlight for South Dakota show choir.
Final Predictions:
1st: Bloomington Jefferson “Jefferson Connection” (BC, BB)
2nd: Millard South “South On Stage” (BV)
3rd: Sioux Falls Jefferson “Legacy”
4th: Harrisburg “Eclipse”
5th: Bloomington Jefferson “JIVE”
